Document Index
This page is an index to the list of documents, computer files and charts
in the Association's archive. If any of this information can be of assistance
in your own research please contact us.
We will be pleased to help in any way we can.
Downloads:
Most of these documents are available as downloads from this Site.
(Have a look at the list of Archived Documents to see which). The files are uploaded in compressed (zip) "Rich Text Format" (RTF) or GEDCOM format which should be readable by most word processors.
For details on how to download, extract and display the files click here.
If you still have trouble with the format please email me at
and we'll work something out.
Updates, Additions and Corrections
Do you have any updates, corrections or additions to the "W" files ? If so, please send your modified version to Peter Whitlock at whitlock@one-name.org. Downloading Files
Start here and page through the list of files using the arrows at the top and bottom of the page. Click on the Download Link in the righthand column to save the selected "zip" file to your hard drive.
Zip Files
The files have been compressed ("zipped") to save on server space and download time. Both Windows XP and Vista can deal with compressed files. For older versions of Windows a good open sourse program, 7Zip, is available from http://www.7-zip.org/. After decompressing the downloaded zip file you end up with either a RTF or GEDCOM. The Birth, Marriage and Will Registers are compressed MS Excel spreadsheets or HTML summeries (also compressed).
Rich Text Format ("RTF")
The "Rich Text Format" is about the closest approach to a "standard" file
type that can be read by most modern word processor programs. For this
reason I converted Peter Whitlock's "wpd" files before uploading them to the
website. (For the same reason it is a good idea to use this format when
exchanging info over the Internet as one is then fairly sure that the
recipient will be able to read your data).
To open an RTF file in your word processor use the File|Open function.
To save a file in RTF use File|Save as .. and choose RTF in the drop down
list.
(This works for MS Word and should be very similar for other programs).
WordPad, that comes with most flavours Windows, can also read RTF files
GEDCOM Files
GEDCOM is an ASCII "linked linage" database format specifically designed for the exchange of genealogical
data. Any good genealogy program should be able to read and write GEDCOM files.
You can view GEDCOM files using TextPad or your word processor but the info doesn't make much sense.
An excellent genealogy program Personal Ancestral File (PAF) that will read GEDCOMs is available for free download from the LDS at www.familysearch.org
